BÜCHI Labortechnik AG has a rich history that dates back to 1939 when it was founded by Walter Büchi. He started with a glassblowing workshop and, despite the challenges of the war, managed to build up his company through hard work and a strong business acumen. The company’s success was driven by Walter Büchi’s passion for precision-engineered glass products, which were initially used in laboratories, the textile industry, and precision engineering.

The company experienced significant growth with the production of circular levels, which are still represented in the BÜCHI logo today. With the economic upswing of the 1950s, BÜCHI expanded its customer base to the chemical-pharmaceutical industry and began producing sophisticated instruments.

A major breakthrough came in 1957 with the development of the world’s first rotary evaporator, the Rotavapor®, which revolutionized work in research laboratories by simplifying the separation of substances with different boiling points. This innovation became a fundamental part of BÜCHI’s market segment and remains a best-seller, indispensable in laboratories worldwide.

In 1991, Reinhardt Büchi took over management and repositioned the company globally, renewing the corporate culture and developing contemporary corporate values. These values are encapsulated in the company’s guiding principle “Quality in your hands,” which underpins BÜCHI’s commitment to contributing to the health and safety of people and the environment with innovative, high-quality products. Today, BÜCHI continues to be a global leader in laboratory technology, offering automated solutions, proprietary software, and application expertise that serve a wide range of industries.
